Jail Psychiatric Services, a part of Haight Asbury Free Clinics, Inc. has been providing psychiatric treatment to inmates at the San Francisco City and County Jail System since March of 1973. JPS offers a full spectrum of mental health care including evaluation and assessments, crisis intervention, individual treatment, group treatment, referral for hospitalization, day treatment program services, a sheltered living unit and after care services.
JPS Referrals
An inmate may self-refer OR concerned family or friends may request JPS intervention. Most referrals are made by jail medical services, the sheriff's department and the courts. JPS also accepts referrals form the San Francisco Community Mental Health System and private practitioners

Jail Aftercare Services is a program component of Jail Psychiatric Services. With Aftercare Services, JPS is reaching out to a special population: The chronically mentally ill inmate who may also have a concurrent substance abuse problem (the dually diagnosed) and who may or may not be connected to community resources.
