Every journey begins with that first step.  This year thousands of concerned citizens in more than 50 communities across the nation are joining the Campaign for the Mind of America. We're walking together to raise money and awareness about our country's need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental illness.

SF Bay Area NAMIWalk Fact Sheet

 NAMIWalks for the Mind of America is a nationwide fundraising and mental health awareness event that will be held again in 2009 in over 70 communities around the country.  Our 2008 NAMIWalk raised funds to help support free San Francisco Bay Area NAMI mental health family and peer support programs, anti-stigma campaigns and training and education programs.  Each local affiliate is free to allocate their portion of funds to where their community need is the greatest.

Registration is FREE!  All participants are encouraged to collect donations from family members, friends, co-workers and business associates in support of their participation in the Walk.

Our participating local affiliates in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo,  Santa Clara and Solano counties depend on the funds raised at the SF Bay Area NAMIWalk to help fund NAMI  programs here in the Bay area.  These programs include support, education, research and advocacy involving schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression), major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and severe anxiety disorders.

All walkers raising $100 or more will receive a NAMIWalks event T-shirt. 

Companies, organizations and families are encouraged to organize teams of walkers made up of employees, organization members, relatives and friends to take part in the Walk.   It is in the shelter of each other that we live.  By widening the circle we raise awareness and bring hope to those who suffer from severe mental illness, their families and their friends.

Teambuilding and fundraising materials will be given out to team captains at a special kickoff event that will be held approximately 8 weeks before the Walk.

NAMIWalks for the Mind of America is a rain or shine event.
